Fall is here, and with it comes busy school days, cooler weather, and plenty of community events to enjoy. Unfortunately, it also brings flu season and an increase in COVID cases, as well as other respiratory viruses. The best way to keep yourself, your family, and your neighbors healthy this time of year is by staying up to date on your vaccines.

This year’s updated flu and COVID-19 vaccines are now available, designed to give you strong protection against the strains expected to circulate in our community. Other vaccines that are available and recommended for the upcoming fall season are RSV and pneumonia. Getting vaccinated means fewer sick days, more time spent doing what you love, and peace of mind knowing you’re helping protect those around you, especially kids, older adults, and anyone more vulnerable to illness.

So, who should get these vaccines?

Flu

The flu vaccine is available and encouraged to everyone over 6 months of age. Whether you got last year’s flu shot or not, you should still receive the updated shot this year. Additionally, a high dose formulation is available to those aged 65 and above.

COVID

The updated COVID vaccine is recommended to those aged 65 and older, or to those aged 19-64 with certain underlying conditions. These conditions include:

  • Chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma or COPD
  • Heart conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Chronic Liver Disease
  • Cancer
  • HIV Infection

RSV

The RSV vaccine is recommended for those aged 75 and older, or those aged 50-74 at high risk. The RSV vaccine is not recommended to repeat at this time.

Pneumococcal Pneumonia

The pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine is recommended for those aged 50 and older, or those aged 19-49 at high risk. It is not a yearly vaccine. If it has been more than 5 years since your last pneumonia vaccine, check with us to see if you are eligible for an additional vaccine.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I get the flu and COVID shots at the same time? Can I get RSV or pneumonia with these as well?

Yes! You can get both vaccines during the same visit, saving you time. Some people may feel more tired or achy after getting two vaccines, as it increases your chances of side effects. We do not recommend getting more than two vaccines in one visit.

What are the side effects of the updated vaccines?

Most side effects are mild and go away in a couple days. Common ones include injection site soreness, tiredness, headache, or a low-grade fever. These are all normal signs that your immune system is building protection.

Do I still need a COVID vaccine if I’ve recently had COVID-19?

Yes. While natural infection does give some protection, it fades over time and may not cover new variants.

Will I have to pay, or are these vaccines covered?

Flu, COVID, RSV, and pneumonia are all usually covered by insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid.

What if I’m 19-64 and not sure if my health condition qualifies me for a COVID vaccine?

If you are not sure if you qualify, feel free to give us a call or visit us in store and we would be happy to help!

Do I need an appointment to get a vaccine?

No, you do not need an appointment, so feel free to walk in any time!

What ages do you give vaccines to?

We give vaccines to everyone aged 7 and up.
